How to find seed money for your nonprofit

This question came to us recently through a Twitter DM from @pegaita:

How do you find seed $?

Great question. Seed money, which is used to start a new project or fund a new organization, can be hard to come by. Most foundations will hesitate to invest in a new nonprofit without a track record. But, the best way to find any grant is through the Foundation Center’s online foundation directory. Their search form lets you filter results by several different keywords, including “Type of Support.” If you’re looking for seed money, simply select “Seed Money” under “Type of Support” in the search form.
